CEM records 450 days without lost time injury
Macao, 4 October 2012
CEM has always attached great importance to promote a safety culture in the company, in the hope of achieving zero accidents. Recently, CEM recorded 450 days without lost time injury (15 months), due to the proactive commitment of all workers and contribution of the contractors. Besides, for successive 2,100 days (70 months), no worker was recorded with lost time injury in CEM’s back offices.
CEM feels proud for its safety performance in recent years. The number of work accidents has been on a visible decline in the past decade. And for the Injury Frequency Rate (IFR), and Injury Severity Rate (ISR), both are a gauge of safety performance, standing at zero currently.
CEM gives high importance to occupational health and safety. The company regularly arranges safety trainings and activities involving all employees and the management, with a view to improve their safety awareness and encouraging them to do their daily work with a responsible attitude. Over the past two years, CEM provided nearly 100 occupational health and safety trainings, with more than 2,800 participations and 8,500 training hours. Besides, the company also holds a series of activities to improve employees’ safety awareness, including CEM SHEQ Excellence award, safety quiz, safety training and certificate of competence, tool box talk, safety visits and safety first campaigns. Meanwhile, CEM always assigns employees to participate in the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao (GHKM) Safety Knowledge Competition, which is hosted by the Labour Affairs Bureau, and they have won several prizes. In order to encourage project contractors and suppliers to keep improving quality, health and safety and environmental protection, CEM attributes the CEM SHEQ Excellence Awards to companies with outstanding performance in these respects every year and holds “Experience Sharing Workshop” to give contractors an insight into construction safety so as to reduce the occurence of accidents.
CEM is also committed to environmental protection. As a responsible and good corporate citizen, CEM tries its best to ensure that every single employee, customer, contractor and supplier has a safe working environment and promises to keep improving its environmental protection and safety performance.
With the achievement of this outstanding record this year, the company will continue to join forces with the employees and contractors to ensure work safety and environmental protection, so as to help boost the sustainable development of Macau.
