CEM popular annual event ‘Energy Fun Fair’ was held today at Tap Seac Square from 11:00am to 4:30pm, with the theme “Energy Saving and Safety”. Targeted to children up to 16 years old, the event aimed at promoting an environmental-friendly and safe way of using energy in the daily life of the Macau citizens. Co-organizers included the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Youth and Education Affairs Bureau and the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector.

The Fair was filled with fun and challenges. Hundreds of students representing 13 local secondary schools competed among themselves in three contests, namely the “Best Booth Design Contest”, in which they had to design a game booth for the public’s learning and interaction; the “Recycled Art Piece Contest”, in which they had to create an art piece for exhibition, by using solely recycling electrical components; and the “Talents Contest”, by showing their creativity and talent in singing, dancing and drama. Top five schools in each of the competitions were awarded with attractive cash prizes. To create a more entertaining and lively atmosphere, students formed cheering groups to support their participating teams!

The thirteen local secondary schools participating in the event included Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Escola Kao Yip, Sheng Kung Hui Escola Choi Kou (Macau), Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), Escola Secundária Pui Ching, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (English Section), Escola Ling Nam, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (Chinese Section), Escola Portuguesa de Macau, Escola Kwong Tai, Colégio Yuet Wah (English Section), Escola Pui Tou and Escola Para Filhos e Irmãos dos Operários. Apart from the schools, the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector also set up its own booth for the public to participate in.

For the first time social media was used as a means of participation in the Fair. By liking CEM fb page at www.facebook.com/Energizing.Tour and check in on spot, children received an game chop instantly, speeding up the process to obtain the final prize. Prizes included Power Boy recycled bag, stationary items, and limited edition Power Boy sports towel. Besides, after voting on their favorite schools, children got entitled to enter into the final lucky draw with the chance to win one iPad Air or one Beats Pro. Over 1,000 children and parents participated. The closing ceremony was held at 5:00pm, with guests of honor including Arnaldo Santos, representative of the Secretary for Transport and Public Works of Macau SAR and Director of the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector, Mak Kim Meng, Administration Committee Member of Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Wong Chio In, Head of Division of Educational Equipment of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Choi Weng Chun, Acting Head of Environmental Inspection Division of Environmental Protection Bureau, Vong Kok Seng, President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee, Lei Chi Fong, Vice-President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee, Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee, João Travassos da Costa, Principal Advisor to CEM Executive Committee, Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee and Charles Leong, Director of the Association of CEM & SAAM Workers.

The top five winning schools of the “Best Booth Design Contest” were: 1st place, Escola Kwong Tai, 2nd place, Sheng Kung Hui Escola Choi Kou (Macau), 3rd place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, 4th place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section) and 5th place, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (Chinese Section), winning respectively MOP5,000, MOP4,000, MOP3,000, MOP2,000 and MOP1,000 and one trophy each; the top five winning schools of the “Talents Contest” were: 1st place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), 2nd place, Escola Portuguesa de Macau, 3rd place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, 4th place, Escola Pui Tou and 5th place, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (English Section), winning respectively MOP3,000, MOP2,500, MOP2,000, MOP1,500 and MOP1,000 and one trophy each; the top five winning schools of the “Recycled Art Piece Contest” were: 1st place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, 2nd place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), 3rd place, Sheng Kung Hui Escola Choi Kou (Macau), 4th place, Colégio Yuet Wah (English Section) and 5th place, Escola Para Filhos e Irmãos dos Operários, winning respectively MOP3,000, MOP2,500, MOP2,000, MOP1,500 and MOP1,000 and one trophy each. Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus and Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (Chinese Section) were chosen by the public as the top three winning schools of the “My Favorite Booth”, winning respectively MOP2,000, MOP1,000 and MOP500 and one trophy each. Finally, the top three winning schools of the “Best Cheering Group” were Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), Escola Kwong Tai and Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, winning respectively MOP2,000, MOP1,000 and MOP500. Lucky winners of“My Favorite Booth Voting” were Sin Chi Chong winning the iPad Air, and Au Weng Kun winning the Beats Pro.

School performances were scored by an invited panel of professional judges representing Civic and Municipal Affair Bureau, Youth and Education Affairs Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, General Residents Association of Macau, Macau Federation of Trade Unions, Chinese Educators Association of Macao, Macau Institute of Engineers, Association of Consumers of Public Utility Companies, Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association, Macau Construction Association, Consumer Council, CEM & SAAM Workers Association, Association of Macau Public Utility Employees and CEM Management.
