26 January 2016, Macau

Chinese New Year is approaching, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) staff had luncheon with elders who joined the “CAT members 1+1 Elderly Program” to celebrate this special season at Federal Restaurant on 22 January.

Before the luncheon, Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee and Leong Weng Ian, Manager of Peng On Tung Service Center, delivered welcome speeches, wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year and good health. During the luncheon, CEM staff and the elders chatted happily, enjoyed delicious foods and took photos to record joyful moments. Photos were printed out instantly and presented to the elders as souvenir. Everyone had quality time together in the midst of conversations and laughter. After the luncheon, CEM Ambassadors offered the elders with Chinese New Year cakes. The elders showed their affections to the activity and hoped that they will have chance to join such kind of activities in the future. Moreover, they expressed thankfulness to CEM for all of the services provided.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Chan Pek Iok, expressed that her financial situation is rather difficult and she is single, living alone with poor health. Although some organizations visit her and send her gifts occasionally, CEM “CAT members 1+1 Elderly Program” is different from those once-off activities as she received friendship and warmth support from ambassadors through their intimate care and regular visits. She expressed her sincere appreciation to CEM and its volunteers’.

CEM has been actively extending care to the community and giving back to society, especially with respect to the elderly. For this purpose, CEM and Peng On Tung Tele-assistance Service jointly launched “CAT members 1+1 Elderly Program” starting from May 2015. The program pairs one CEM Ambassador with one elderly. Apart from regular telephone communications and greetings, CEM also made use of its resources to offer diversified services for elderly, include regular visits with healthy foods, household power safety inspection, LED bulbs changing services, as well as arranging Coloane Power Station visit and festival gatherings, etc.

The event gained the full support of CEM’s top management. In the future, CEM will continuously recruit more Ambassadors and invest more manpower and resources to help those in need. In addition, CEM Ambassadors participated in the Program said that the event was very meaningful and hoped that their modest efforts would drive more people to make contributions to the wellbeing of the elderly in Macau.
