Macau Energy Saving Contest is now open for enrollment

18 April 2016, Macau

To promote energy conservation in the hotel and property management industry and commend related enterprises and institutions for their contributions to energy conservation, CEM and Energy Sector Development Office have jointly launched the annual Macau Energy Saving Contest since 2009. The co-organizers include the General Residents Association of Macau, Macau Property Management Business Association and Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association. Since its launch the Contest has achieved incredible savings of over 116.4 million kWh of electricity in seven years, which is an encouraging achievement. This year, CEM will continue to hold the Contest to proactively arouse the awareness of energy conservation among citizens, hotels and property management companies.

The six-month Contest is now open for registration and include two categories, namely Public Building Facilities Group and Hotel Group. Comparison will be based on the six consecutive billing months of electricity consumption from May to October 2016 with the same period in 2015. All hotels, building property owners and property management companies in Macau are welcome to enroll in the Contest through the organizers or co-organizers. The Hotel Group will include three categories based on the subscribed demand, with Champion, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, and Excellence awards to be presented in each category. This year, for the Hotel Group, the “Energy-saving Concept” award will be retained to encourage participating hotels to develop innovative energy-saving measures.

A jury comprised of celebrities in Macau is formed to ensure the fairness of the Contest and make the final judgment on all categories of the Contest. Representatives of the judges include Lewis Chan, Macau Consumer Council Executive Committee Member; João Ramos, Chairman of Macau Energy Saving Association; Cheang Io Tung, President of Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association; Andy Tam, Standing Director of Macau Association of Building Contractors and Developers and Tomas Leong, Council of Macau Association of Consumers of Public Utility Companies. The results of the Contest will be announced in January 2017 and an award ceremony will also be held by then.

The deadline for application is 15 June. Interested customers can refer to the “Macau Energy Saving Contest 2016” on www.cem-macau.com to learn more details about the Contest and download the enrollment form.
