CEM Solar & Capacitance Model Car Races open for enrolment

Macau, 20 June, 2016

With the objective of enhancing the scientific and technological knowledge of Macau’s students, and promote their awareness of the importance of using green energies for the environment protection, CEM is going to host again the “Solar & Capacitance Model Car Races” at Coloane Power Station on 25 September 2016 (Sunday) from 11:00am to 6:00pm. The Macau Youth Federation, the General Association of Chinese Students of Macau and the Youth Center of Macau Federation of Trade Unions have been invited as co-organizers, and the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events (HK TREE) will provide the technical support. The top three winning teams of each race will represent Macau to compete in the “Hong Kong TREE 2016”, which is going to be held at the HK Science & Technology Parks.

While the ‘Solar Model Car Race’ targets F4 to F6 secondary school students, the ‘Capacitance Model Car Race’ targets grades F1 to F3. In both races, schools can enroll up to four teams (3 to 5 students each), and students are encouraged to design and make their own model cars, and compete among themselves for the “Top Five Teams”, plus an “Overall Fastest Lap Award” and a “Top Three Best Model Car Design Award” among the teams participating in the “Solar Model Car Race”. CEM will provide sponsorship for production to each team and will also hold a half-day workshop on 10 September 2016 (Saturday) to all the participating teams.

‘Top Five Teams’ of Solar Model Car Race will receive cash prizes of MOP3,000, MOP2,000, MOP1,000, MOP800 and MOP500 respectively, plus trophies and certificates of winning. Winner of the ‘Overall Fastest Lap Award’ will receive a cash prize of MOP1,000 and a trophy, while ‘Top Three Best Model Car Designs’ will receive cash prizes of MOP1,000, MOP800 and MOP500, plus trophies.

‘Top Five Teams’ of Capacitance Model Car Race will receive cash prizes of MOP2,000, MOP1,500, MOP1,000, MOP800 and MOP500, respectively, plus trophies and certificates of winning. Besides, all participating students will receive a certificate.

During the event in Macau, apart from the Races, students will have the chance to learn and experience advanced technology in robotics that will be displayed at the venue, contributing for their general knowledge and education, plus nurturing their creativity and interest for science and new technologies.

Students can visit www.cem-macau.com where they can get all the information they need about the event. Enrolment ends on 15 July 2016. For more details, students can directly contact Mr. Sou from CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office at 8393 1206.
