The 5th “Macau Outstanding Senior Citizens Award” is now accepting nominations

Nomination is now open for the 5th “Macau Outstanding Senior Citizens Award”, which is organized by CEM to recognize the contributions of the elderly to society. Eligible candidates must be Macau permanent residents aged 65-year-old or above, and should be nominated by a co-organizer or a local association. The event is co-organized by the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, General Residents Association of Macau, Women’s General Association of Macau, Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, Caritas Macau, Macau Special Olympics and Fu Hong Society of Macau.
The annual Macau Outstanding Senior Citizens Award comes to its fifth year in 2016 since kicking off in 2012. The Award is organized to commend senior citizens who are dedicated to their duties, setting examples for young generation to learn from their positive attitude toward life and sense of responsibility. It also aims to encourage senior citizens to continue to push for personal and social development by making use of their extensive knowledge and life experience. Eligible candidates must have outstanding performance and contribution in the following aspects:
−Active participation in social and volunteer services, as well as support of charity activities;
− Pursuit of lifelong learning, further education and knowledge-sharing with others;
− Foster intergenerational harmony and setting an example for the next generation through action.
The 5th “Macau Outstanding Senior Citizens Award” is now accepting nominations until 31 August. Ten winners will be selected by a judging panel in a fair and impartial manner. Members of the judging panel include Lo Sok Ha, Chief of the Senior Citizen Services Department of Social Welfare Bureau; Lei Pui Lam, Vice President of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau; Lam Wan Mei, Director of Seniors Academy of Macao Polytechnic Institute; Sin Chi Yeung, Vice President of Macau Elder Sports Association; and Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee. The award ceremony will be held at the end of this year, where each winner will be given a trophy and a cash prize of MOP 5,000.
