CEM recently arranged the CEM Customer Liaison Committee (CLC) to visit Singapore to exchange views on power generation, power supply and energy-efficient buildings. The 30-member delegation was led by Vong Kok Seng, CLC President, Vice-President of Board of Directors of Macau Chamber of Commerce; Lei Chi Fong, CLC Vice President and President of Macau Goldsmith’s Guild and Iun Iok Meng, CLC Vice President and Advisor to CEM Executive Committee. Wong Kin Chong, CLC member and President of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau Northern District; Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor to CEM Executive Committee; Billy Chan, Senior Manager of CEM Transmission and Distribution Department; Jane Leong, Senior Manager of CEM Customer Services Department; and Cecilia Nip, Senior Manager of CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office are the Consultants of the delegation. Delegation members included representatives of local associations and institutions in Macau, as well as CEM representatives. The visit achieved the expected results.

Macau and Singapore have seen rapid development in recent years with the completion of large-scale projects in succession. Hence, both regions have paid close attention to ensuring the stability of power supply. The delegation visited the Power Automation Pte Ltd., Keppel Power Plant and Sembcorp Power Plant. Besides, they also visited the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore to understand the university’s efforts on energy conservation and emission reduction.

Power Automation Pte Ltd is a joint venture of Singapore Power and Siemens. During the visit, representatives of Power Automation Pte Ltd introduced the company’s power grid and substation automatic system, as well as online energy management system. Keppel Group and Sembcorp Power Plants are situated on Jurong Island, the artificial island located to the southwest of the main island of Singapore. The installed capacity of two power plants are 1,300MW and 400MW respectively. Like Coloane Power Station B, they adopt combined cycle power generators which use natural gas for power generation. Representatives of the Power Plants also explained to the delegation how the companies arrange power generation in accordance with market demands.

NTU is poised to become the greenest campus in the world, expecting to achieve 35% reduction in energy, water and waste intensity of the campus by 2020. Apart from the support of teachers and students, green buildings in the campus are also important for achieving this goal. Currently, there are 51 new and existing buildings in the university that have received Green Mark Platinum status by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority, and they are expected to save 39,000 MW of electricity every year. The delegation visited NTU’s Learning Hub, which looks unique and is functional and sustainable. The open space inside the hub can allow air to flow naturally, providing a comfortable communication and interaction space for teachers and students, as well as reducing the use of air conditioning to achieve the effects of energy conservation and emission reduction.

During the visit, members of CEM Customer Liaison Committee were very interested in issues such as power grid and energy conservation, and they benefited a lot from the exchange activities.
