At the invitation of EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A., Xu Kaicheng, Chairman of the Board of Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited and Chairman of Board of Directors of CEM, recently led a delegation to visit Portugal.

The delegation attended the biannual meeting of EDP, visited shareholders of the company and held friendly talks with EDP President António Mexia and Executive Director João Marques da Cruz. The two sides reviewed the cooperation between CEM and EDP, and exchange views on expanding new areas of cooperation. Both parties said that they will give play to complementary advantages to strengthen cooperation in the energy market and jointly build a win-win partnership.

The delegation also carried out talks with Portuguese entrepreneur Jorge Coelho to exchange views on hot issues of mutual concern. During the visit, Vitor Manuel Álvares Escária, Advisor to Prime Minister of Portugal, warmly received the delegation. Xu introduced Nam Kwong and CEM, the role of Macau as a bridge between China and Portugal in trade and economy, as well as the basic work done by Macau for the Belt and Road Initiative. Vitor Manuel Álvares Escária expected that Nam Kwong will make diversified investments in Portugal in the future to strengthen the Sino-Portuguese economic and trade cooperation. Xu said that Macau and Portugal have deep historical origins, and hoped that Macau will have the opportunity to enhance communications with Portuguese enterprises in sectors of energy, tourism, trade, real estate, wine and food, thus seeking investment opportunities and expending business opportunities.

Later, the delegation paid a visit to EDP’s Power and Network Dispatch Centres and smart grid infrastructure in Evora, as well as combined cycle gas turbine generators at the suburb of Lisbon. In addition, the delegation held an in-depth discussion with the project directors to lay a good foundation for pragmatic cooperation between both sides.

The delegation also met with Ilídio da Costa Leite de Pinho, who is the founder of IP Holdings and one of the shareholders of CEM.
