CEM hosted once again the popular annual event ‘Energy Fun Fair’ today at Tap Seac Square, with the support of Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Youth and Education Affairs Bureau and the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector. With the theme “green energy for a sustainable future” the event aimed at promoting the usage of green energies as an environmental-friendly way to contribute for a sustainable future for the generations to come. A record of seventeen secondary local schools with more than 500 students and teachers joined the event and thousands of children and their families participated.

The event was organized in a competition basis and school teams entered three distinct contests, the “Best Booth Design Contest”, in which students had to design a game booth for the public’s learning and interaction; the “Recycled Art Piece Contest”, where students had to create an art piece by using solely recycling electrical components; and the “Talents Contest”, where students had to perform on stage showing their creativity and talents for the amusement of the audience. Schools also formed cheering groups to support their participating teams. The event was filled with fun and lots of learning experiences. CEM specially featured a “Renewable Energy Zone”. Children were able to participate by themselves in experiences with three renewable energies, wind, solar and kinetic power, learning how important is to protect our environment.

The closing ceremony was held at 5:00pm, with guests of honor including Andy Lei, Consultant Senior Technician of the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector, Vong Io Chou, Head of Division of Urban Facilities of Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Wong Chio In, Head of Division of Educational Equipment of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Ieong Kin Si, Head of Environmental Publicity, Education and Cooperation Department of Environmental Protection Bureau, Vong Kok Seng, President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee, Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee, Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor to CEM Executive Committee, Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee and Charles Leong, Director of the Association of CEM & SAAM Workers.

Bernie Leong said in his speech ‘CEM is proud of taking part of the education of the younger generation. For more than a decade we have been partnering with local schools to challenge the students develop their creativity and scientific knowledge. I am impressed with all the enthusiasm and hard work of the students. By promoting the usage of clean energies we seek at enhancing the youngsters’ consciousness on being environmental-friendly so as to contribute for a sustainable future for the generations to come’.

Prizes for the several competitions were announced during the closing ceremony. The top five winning schools of the “Best Booth Design Contest” were: 1st place, Sacred Heart Canossian College – English Section, 2nd place, Kwon Tai Middle School, 3rd place, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – English Secondary, 4th place, Pui Ching Middle School and 5th place, Sacred Heart Canossian College – Chinese Section, winning respectively MOP5,000, MOP4,000, MOP3,000, MOP2,000 and MOP1,000 and a trophy; the top five winning schools of the “Talents Contest” were: 1st place, Sacred Heart Canossian College – English Section, 2nd place, Sacred Heart Canossian College – Chinese Section, 3rd place, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – English Secondary, 4th place, Portuguese School of Macau and 5th place, Macau Sam Yuk Middle School – English Section, winning respectively MOP3,000, MOP2,500, MOP2,000, MOP1,500 and MOP1,000 and a trophy; the top five winning schools of the “Recycled Art Piece Contest” were: 1st place, Kwon Tai Middle School, 2nd place, Fong Chong School of Taipa, 3rd place, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – English Secondary, 4th place, Sacred Heart Canossian College – English Section and 5th place, Sacred Heart Canossian College – Chinese Section, winning respectively MOP3,000, MOP2,500, MOP2,000, MOP1,500 and MOP1,000 and a trophy. Sacred Heart Canossian College – Chinese Section, Sacred Heart Canossian College – English Section and Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – English Secondary were chosen by the public as the top three winning schools of the “My Favorite Booth”, winning respectively MOP2,000, MOP1,000 and MOP500 and a trophy. Finally, the top three winning schools of the “Best Cheering Group” were Sacred Heart Canossian College – English Secondary, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – English Secondary and Fong Chong School of Taipa, winning respectively MOP2,000, MOP1,000 and MOP500. Lucky winners of“My Favorite Booth Voting” were Loi Fong winning one Apple Watch, and Cheung Chun Bong winning one iPad mini 3.

School performances were scored by an invited panel of professional judges representing Civic and Municipal Affair Bureau, Youth and Education Affairs Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, General Residents Association of Macau, Macau Federation of Trade Unions, Women’s General Association of Macau, The Chinese Educators Association of Macao, Macau Institute of Engineers, Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association, Macau Construction Association, Consumer Council, CEM & SAAM Workers Association and CEM Management.

The participating schools included Fong Chong Secondary School (Taipa), Millennium Secondary School, The Workers’ Children High School, Sacred Heart Canossian College - Chinese Section, Sacred Heart Canossian College - English Section, Pui Ching Middle School, Kwong Tai Middle School, Kao Yip Middle School, Tong Nam School, Sam Yuk Middle School (Macau) - English Section, The International School of Macau, The Affiliated School of University of Macau, Portuguese School of Macau, Hou Kong Middle School, Macau Anglican College, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima - Chinese Section and Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima - English Secondary.
