“CEM Solar Model Car Race” Champion Team Yuet Wah College (Chinese Section) Triumphed Again in Hong Kong

Macau, 5 December, 2017

Further to hosting the 5th edition of CEM Solar & Capacitance Model Car Races at Coloane Power Station on 12 November, with the participation of more than 500 students and teachers, and a record high of 100 teams from 25 local secondary schools, CEM sponsored the top three winning schools of the two races to represent Macau to compete in the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events (HK TREE 2017) in Hong Kong on 2 December.

Schools representing CEM Solar Model Car Race were Yuet Wah College – Chinese Section, Yuet Wah College – English Section and Santa Rosa de Lima College – Chinese Section, while schools representing CEM Capacitance Model Car Race were Santa Rosa de Lima College – Chinese Section, Yuet Wah College – English Section and Tong Sin Tong Secondary School, with over 30 students and teachers representing Macau in the competition in Hong Kong.

This year was the 12th edition of HK TREE, aiming at raising the scientific and technological knowledge of the school students, and promoting their awareness of using renewable energy and realizing the important effect of renewable energy for the environment protection. 264 secondary school teams and 140 primary school teams, with over 1,050 students participated in this year’s edition of HK TREE.  

Overall, the Macau teams had an outstanding performance in the competitions entered, especially in the Solar Model Car Race in which Yuet Wah College (Chinese Section) and Yuet Wah College (English Section), who were the Champion and 1st runner-up respectively in Macau race, also won the Champion and 1st runner-up in Hong Kong.  

Atmosphere during the races was fantastic and Macau students shared having had a great experience. They felt enthusiastic for representing Macau and their schools, and for most of them it was a novelty to join such kind of event, especially the opportunity to share experiences and compete with students from different schools and backgrounds. Student Ip Chi Fong from Yuet Wah College (Chinese Section) said that “We were so excited to bring this title to our school, and we want to thank our teachers for all their guidance and technical support. Teacher Tou Un Hong, from Tong Sin Tong Secondary School said “Obtaining a good result is not the most important, what really matters is the participation and gained learning experience from the students.”
