Secondary schools sponsored by CEM obtain remarkable results in renewable energy competition in Hong Kong

Further to organizing the 6th edition of CEM Solar & Capacitance Model Car Races with a record of 600 students from 25 schools and 108 teams participating, CEM sponsored the top three winning teams of the two races to represent Macau to compete in the 13th edition of the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events (HK TREE 2018) in Hong Kong.
57 secondary school teams and 32 primary school teams, with nearly 900 students participated in this year’s edition of HK TREE. Over 30 Macau students and teachers participated in the Race. Schools participated in the Solar Model Car Race were Yuet Wah College – Chinese Section, Yuet Wah College – English Section and Sacred Heart Canossian College – Chinese Section, while schools participated in the Capacitance Model Car Race were Santa Rosa de Lima College – Chinese Section, Yuet Wah College – Chinese Section and Pui Ching Secondary School.
The Macau teams had an outstanding performance, winning the Champion title in all competitions entered. In the Solar Model Car Race, Yuet Wah College – Chinese Section was the Champion and Yuet Wah College – English Section and Sacred Heart Canossian College obtained the First Prize in the Solar Model Car Best Design Award. In the Capacitance Model Car Race, Santa Rosa de Lima College – Chinese Section won the Champion while Pui Ching Secondary School was the 2nd runner-up. In the Solar Model Car Race HK-Macau Cup, Yuet Wah College was again the Champion. Macau teams were overwhelmed with such remarkable results.
Li Guangyue, teacher of Santa Rosa de Lima College – Chinese Section, who won the champion of the Capacitance Model Car Race said that “The success depends on the importance and support given by the schools in promoting energy conservation and the use of renewable energy. With this experience, students not only achieved excellent results but also gained confidence and motivation to excel in their studies. We hope our community can provide more platforms for the students’ enrichment”.
Chan Ka Wa, student of Yuet Wah College – Chinese Section who won the title in the Solar Model Car Race gladly said that “We learnt a lot throughout the whole competition. Renewable energy is definitely one of the solutions to global warming. I hope Macau and the world will promote and utilize it more.”
CEM will continue to invest in the education of the new generations, especially in improving their scientific and technical knowledge about electricity and enhance their awareness of the importance of using renewable energy and ultimately contribute for the environment protection.
