600 students compete in CEM 7th Solar & Capacitance Model Car Races to practice usage of clean energies

Aiming at enhancing local students’ awareness and knowledge of using renewable energies as an effort to contribute for a sustainable clean environment, CEM hosted the 7th edition of the Solar & Capacitance Model Car Races this Sunday at the Macau Portuguese School. A new record of entries was hit again with total 27 schools, 123 teams and over 600 students participated. The event was co-organized by the Youth Center of Macau Federation of Trade Unions and the Macao Youth Federation, and with the technical support of Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events (HK TREE).

Mr. Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor of CEM Executive Committee, said during his speech at the closing ceremony that “CEM proactively supports local education and provide students with diversified learning experiences. We strive to hold various activities to promote students’ knowledge and usage habits of energy starting from an early stage”. He added that “With the impact of global warning and extreme weather, our future is at risk. Utilization of renewable energy will be one of our main keys to create a cleaner and greener future. I hope you will uphold your creativity and energy you have generated today. After returning to your schools, continue to learn with enthusiasm, and become part of the development of the clean energy industry in the future.”

Ms. Zélia Baptista, Vice President of the Board of the Macau Portuguese School said that “Only renewable energy, especially green energy can save our planet, and the students participating here today are fighting to build a better future for all of us. Just like we gather here today with the participation of enterprises and the schools to support sustainable development, we can make our world to be a green world again”. She also expressed her gratitude to CEM by providing a platform to combine theory and practice. It can be seen from the success of the races. CEM has been devoted to organize the races over these seven years and constantly encourage the students to actively participate in and concern of the environment protection. It is recognized by the society of Macau.

Other honorable guests included Wong Kin Mou, Chief of Department of Research and Education Resources of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Vong Sao Kun, Representative of Environmental Protection Bureau, Maverick Luk, Chairman of Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events, Leong Wai Fong, President of Macau Federation of Trade Unions, Addy Chan, Vice Secretary of Macau Youth Federation, and Cecilia Nip, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office.

70 teams from F4 to F6 grades participated in the “Solar Model Car Race”, while 53 teams from F1 to F3 grades joined the “Capacitance Model Care Race”. After rounds of fierce competition, final results were:
