To meet the development needs, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) has commissioned Zhuhai Hengqin Cogeneration Company Ltd., a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (Guangdong Company), to provide technical training for the staff in Generation Department in order to cultivate talents for CEM. The “Launching Ceremony of CEM Generation Technical Training Program” was held on 6 December at Zhuhai Hengqin Cogeneration Company. A total of 22 people attended the ceremony, including Kang Hong, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Hengqin New District; Liu Jianguo, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Company; He Huaichang, General Manager of Hengqin Cogeneration Company; Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor to the Executive Committee of CEM, and Edmond Etchri, Director of Generation Department of CEM.

On behalf of the Management Committee of Hengqin New District, Kang Hong congratulated the two parties on the successful launch of the cooperation program and discussed the current results of cooperation as well as deepening exchanges in terms of housing, education, medical care, employment and interaction between the two regions. He also stressed the requirements of “optimizing the energy structure and layout of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and establishing a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy supply system” as stated in the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area", which clearly defines the direction for cooperation in the energy industry between Macau and Hengqin. Kang Hong also hoped that Zhuhai Hengqin Cogeneration Company will take the advantages of the cooperation with Macau and learn from CEM’s advanced experience in regional power management.

Benjamin Yue expressed his gratitude for the support of the Management Committee of Hengqin New District and Zhuhai Hengqin Cogeneration Company. He believed that the promulgation and implementation of the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" provided a policy basis for CEM’s power generation business and the cooperation between power generation companies in the GBA. To integrate into the overall national development, CEM will enhance the development of smart energy and clean energy, and increase the procurement of engineering services from Mainland China through energy cooperation in the GBA. As Guangdong Company has excellent engineering and technical management experience, CEM has commissioned its subsidiary Zhuhai Hengqin Cogeneration Company to provide a combined cycle gas turbine technical training program. With the help, guidance and strict implementation of its experienced instructors throughout the six-month training program, as well as evaluating trainees through gas turbine start/stop operations and drills, it is believed that trainees will be able to give full play to their capabilities at work in the future.

The two parties will take this as an opportunity to further deepen future cooperation in the power and energy industry. Action will be taken to implement the development strategy of the GBA, so that the achievement of complementary advantages and mutual benefits of the two regions can be accelerated and a solid foundation can be laid for long-term and deeper cooperation in the future.
