CEM holds “Typhoon Seminar” to respond typhoon together with residents in low-lying areas
Macau, 27 July 2020
Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM)’s top priority has always been to provide Macau citizens with reliable and stable power supply. In response to the challenges posed by extreme weather, CEM has formulated a number of improvement measures for power facilities in low-lying areas, including optimizing the medium-voltage network structure, raising power facilities, installing flood barriers in customer substations, and so forth.
Electricity and water are incompatible. In order to ensure personal safety of the public and prevent permanent damage of power facilities caused by flooding, CEM may suspend power supply based on the flooding condition during storm surge period. In recent years, CEM has been optimizing power suspension plan to minimize the affected areas. CEM has launched different platforms, including WeChat, website, SMS as well as “Building Subscription” function for citizens to receive push notifications related to power supply conditions.
In order to inform citizens of relevant measures and arrangements to get well prepared for typhoon season, CEM has organized 9 sessions of “Seminar for How to Respond to Typhoons in Low-lying Areas” in June and July with Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), Macao Federation of Trade Unions, General Residents Associations of Macau, Women’s General Association of Macau, Macau Institution of People’s Alliance, District Development Promotion Association, Peng On Tung Tele-assistance Services, Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of Macau. Participants were residents living in low-lying areas as well as volunteers and employees of different associations and institutions.
During seminars, CEM representatives introduced the company’s improvement works, customers’ flood prevention measures, power suspension measures and restoration arrangement, preparation when typhoon’s approaching, channels for receiving power supply information, and more. Attendees were eager to raise questions and make suggestions on power supply measures if typhoon strikes. CEM responded and discussed the relevant issues with attendees on the spot. Volunteers and employees of associations said that such services as WeChat binding and building subscription are very convenient for citizens to know about buildings’ power supply condition in advance, so as to be well prepared. In addition, the seminars would be of great help to them in providing appropriate assistance to senior citizens and the underprivileged groups during typhoon. They can know about senior citizens power supply condition via subscribing their buildings.
In case of typhoon, CEM will announce power supply information to the public via WeChat, Facebook fan page and corporate website (www.cem-macau.com). Citizens can follow these platforms in advance to receive the latest information.
