CEM partners with Macau Federation of Trade Unions to offer free electrical safety inspection to needy seniors
Macau, 17 June 2021
CEM launched its Community Program in 2000, becoming one of the first organizations in Macau to launch such services, providing free safety inspection and maintenance of household electrical installations for senior citizens who live in solitude, under-privileged families as well as people with special needs. CEM recently teamed up with Macau Federation of Trade Unions to conduct safety inspections for 25 seniors and provide free repair service for 9 solitary seniors aged between 74 and 104.
In addition to repair plugs, sockets and broken cables and replace overload circuit breaker, RCD and conventional light bulbs with energy-efficient LED light bulbs, CEM also helped the Macau Federation of Trade Unions to install bathroom heat lights to keep the elderly comfortable during winter.
Chan Zyun, a 94-year-old senior citizen said, "I was very happy when I heard that CEM technicians were coming to my home. I have been worrying about my damaged and old electrical installations for a long time. It’s very difficult and costly to hire an electrician nowadays. Now that the installations have been inspected and repaired by CEM technicians, I feel a lot safer. The bathroom heat light also helps to reduce the chance of catching a cold during winter. A big thank you to the volunteers of CEM and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions”.
Cheang Ka Ian, one of CEM's technicians said, "I have been participating in this Program for several years. I like to help people, especially the elderly, who have contributed so much to our society. I feel I have to give back to them, and it's so good to see their smiles when we are doing our job, I am proud to be a part of this team.”
Citizens may refer someone they know who lives in an underprivileged situation who require CEM’s assistance, by filling in the registration form on the CEM website (www.cem-macau.com) with all the required information for assessment, or call 8393 1206 for enquiry.
