CEM participates in 2021 China (Macau) International Automobile Exposition to promote the application of electric vehicles

Macau, 11 November 2021

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM. S.A. (CEM) participates in 2021 China (Macau) International Automobile Exposition and sets up a booth to introduce electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities and the future development plan. EV charging method is demonstrated in the booth. CEM hopes to cooperate with the Macau SAR Government in the promotion of green commute and the EV application to build a green and smart city.

CEM’s exhibition booth themes on “Driving the Smart Future”. In recent years, EVs have achieved innovative breakthroughs in terms of battery and performance, with longer endurance. With its assistance in achieving long-term carbon reduction goals, EV is expected to become an important means of transport in the near future. Two charging facilities supporting slow and fast charging modes will be exhibited, covering 7kW, 11kW and 22kW, which are suitable for various EV models with different charging power and plug types including CCS2, CHAdeMo and Type2.

CEM has been actively promoting the use of EVs and expanding its charging network. At present, EV charging spaces are available at 42 public car parks and 7 streets across Macau, Taipa and Coloane. The coverage in public car parks is nearly 80%, with most of the plug types available. CEM will strive to further increase the coverage. By introducing China’s national standard charging systems and applying smart charging network management technology in relatively large public car parks, the charging infrastructure will be able to distribute electricity more efficiently.

According to the Power Supply Technical Specifications revised in 2018, car parks in new buildings must be 100% equipped with charging infrastructure, such as wire carriers and electrical cabinets, etc. to improve EV charging facilities, so as to encourage the public to drive green. In addition, there is a lack of charging facilities in private housing estates at present. In the future, standard charging facilities will be installed to let EV owners charge their EVs near their home and offices during the parking time.
To foster environmental protection and achieve “Cardless Charging Flow”, CEM replaced the EV card with mobile app in 2020 and launched “EV Charging” in CEM WeChat in September 2021. EV owners just need to follow “CEM WeChat” and bind their eService account to start charging without logging in every time. Before setting off to charge their EVs, citizens may also check the availability of EV charging stations on CEM website or mobile app.
There are many benefits to commute with EV, including significant reduction in CO2 emissions; reducing noise pollution as it is very quiet when driving; with the absence of exhaust systems, starter motors, fuel injection systems, radiators and many other parts, the maintenance cost of EVs will be less than conventional gasoline vehicles.
2021 China (Macau) International Automobile Exposition is held from 11am to 8pm on 12 – 14 November at Cotai Expo Hall A, B and C in Venetian Macao. Citizens can visit CEM booth no.C004 to learn more about EV charging, for those who participate in charging demonstrations will receive a souvenir.
