The Rummikub Competition was divided into the Middle School Group and the Open Group. Overwhelming enrollments were received for both groups. 70 teams from 37 middle schools signed up for the Middle School Group and approximately 400 people for the Open Group. 320 players were decided by random draws. The oldest among the participants was a 91-year-old lady Ms. Ao Ieong, which shows that the game is suitable for all ages.
The competition was held in the morning for the Middle School Group and in the afternoon for the Open Group. Competition for each group was conducted in three phases: preliminary, semi-final and final. After tense battles, the winners of each group were announced. In the award ceremony, Cecilia Nip from CEM, addressed in her speech that the company has been committed to bringing fun to citizens of different age groups by holding various activities, embodying its corporate slogan of “Powering Forward” with action. The Rummikub Competition, which was open to people of different age groups, was especially meaningful. CEM hopes to bring out the message of maintaining our brains active, so as to delay and prevent dementia. In addition, we hope the society will care more for the disadvantaged, as an amicable community can make life more comfortable for dementia patients and their caregivers.
Lei Wai In and Wu Jianwei, Vice-Chair of MADA, expressed their gratitude to CEM for the enthusiastic support and donating the funds from the event to the association. They will make good use of the resources to actively expand their work related to dementia. Macau is also facing the situation of continuous aging of the population and increasing cases of dementia. Dementia has become a very important issue in Macau society. Although advanced age is an important risk factor for the onset of dementia, it does not necessarily mean that dementia will be developed at an older age. More and more evidence show that the risk of dementia can be reduced by improving lifestyles, such as a balanced diet, proper exercise, more brain training and active social activities, etc. The Rummikub Competition is a good publicity for dementia, which can attract the attention of the society.
