CEM partners with UM again for organizing CEM Electric Power Engineering Training Course to increase young engineers' professional knowledge about power system
17 December 2011, Macao
In order to increase its young engineers’ professional knowledge about Power System and prepare them for future challenges and opportunities, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) has partnered with the University of Macau (UM) again to organize a 12-session training course—“CEM Electric Power Engineering Training Course”. Experts and professors from Macao, Hong Kong and the Mainland are invited as instructors for the 15 CEM engineers.
The “CEM Electric Power Engineering Training Course” was officially started at the University of Macau on 17 December. The opening ceremony was jointly officiated by Benjamin Yue, Senior Manager of CEM Power and Network Dispatch Department, VAI Mang I, Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Macau and Dr. Cheng Hing Wan, Director of Centre for Continuing Education, University of Macau.
Benjamin Yue indicated that as part of CEM’s systematic and structural training scheme, the training course was jointly organized by CEM in partnership with UM for the second time following that of last year. This scheme demonstrated CEM’s proactive attitude in supporting the long-term development of local higher education and devotion in cultivating young engineers. To better organize the training course, professors of the University of Macau and staffs of the Human Resources Department of CEM have made a careful study and review on last year’s curriculum and made improvements in the training contents, teaching methods, testing and evaluation means, enabling the course setup and teaching methods to be closer and more practical to the actual power system engineering operations. CEM has especially invited Dr. Wong Chi Kong from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Macau to act as the coordinator for this course, in order to help the company’s engineers better grasp the training contents and apply the knowledge to their career development.
VAI Mang I pointed out in his speech that CEM has been serving Macao for many years and has made important contributions to the economic development of this region. He was glad that the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UM can jointly hold the training course again with CEM and Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of UM. He hoped that the FST could continue to give full play to its professional advantages and cooperates with CEM and also other organizations in more fields.
Cheng Hing Wan said that with the fully support of FST, the Centre for Continuing Education of UM was honored to hold the training course once again with CEM. He hoped that students could grasp this opportunity to improve their own skills and fully equip themselves to meet future opportunities and challenges and make contributions to Macao’s society.
The modern society is an era of knowledge explosion and rapid updating. Life-long learning has become an actual necessity. As a result, CEM continuously invests resources to hold diversified training courses. With the assistance of UM, the training course can greatly improve the professional knowledge of young CEM engineers in electronic systems and continuously make preparations for the sustainable development of the enterprise.
