CEM organizes "Macau North to South Walk" to promote environmental protection and green commute
Macau, 18 December 2022
To promote environmental protection and green commute, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) held the "Macau North to South Walk" activity for the first time today. Through long-distance walking, CEM and the professional coaches of San Ngai Macau led 19 participants to boost their physical fitness, learn about the outdoor power facilities along the way and experience walking from northern Macau to southern Macau, which could be easier than expected. To allow participants to prepare in advance, CEM and San Ngai Macau held a briefing session before the event to explain to the participants the precautions during the walk.
The route ran through Macau, Taipa and Coloane from north to south. The team leaders and participants gathered and set off at Border Gate Square at 10am, passing the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge to arrive at Taipa Village and have lunch. The group finally arrived at the southernmost point of Estrada da Aldeia in Coloane. Through the explanations given by the CEM staff along the way, the participants also learned about the power transmission and distribution network as well as the power infrastructure and facilities in Macau, including substations, outdoor customer substations, distribution boxes and smart streetlights, etc. “Macau North to South Walk” has received positive feedback from all the participants. They agreed that the activity was good for the body and mind, and allowed them to learn more about Macau. One of the participants, Ms. Feng, said that although the activity was a bit challenging, it was achievable with perseverance. This activity also provided an opportunity for modern office workers and students who often sit for long periods to exercise and challenge themselves. She also found the activity meaningful, as it was not just about walking, citizens could learn about the power facilities that are closely related to daily life along the way.
Green living and sustainable development are one of the most important topics that are worth pondering by modern men. Green commuting refers to the use of transportation methods that have less impact on the environment, such as taking more public transportation and walking more, which can help reduce carbon emissions and save energy. CEM will continue to hold more environmental protection-related activities in the future to drive and promote the green culture of Macau.
