The Macau SAR Government announced the 2022 Honours List today, and Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) was awarded the Medal of Professional Merit for 2022. Receiving this honour means a full recognition of CEM’s 50-year service to Macau by the Macau SAR Government. CEM sincerely thanks the Macau SAR Government and for the recognition and support of its work. CEM’s professional team has always insisted on providing customers with world-leading and excellent power supply services. CEM is also committed to cultivating professional talents for the industry and actively undertaking corporate social responsibilities.

CEM always takes ensuring stable power supply in Macau and supporting the city’s economic and social development as its mission. The company rises to the challenge, advances with the changing times, and constantly improves itself. Over the years, CEM has continuously optimized and strengthened the construction of the transmission and distribution network, introduced a new power dispatch system, and realized environmentally friendly natural gas power generation. CEM also assisted the Macau SAR Government to respond to the call of the national dual carbon goals and carry out forward-looking research on green and low-carbon transformation and development; develop the electric vehicle (EV) charging network; undertake the management of the underground common services tunnel in the new urban zone, and make positive contributions to the prosperous and stable development of Macau’s economy and smart city development.

2022 marks the 50th anniversary of CEM. In this Golden Jubilee year, the company has achieved many milestones. The reliability of power supply reached 99.9999%, ranking among the top in the world. The 220kV Pac On Substation and the 3rd Guangdong-Macau interconnection were successfully put into operation in November, forming a three-interconnection network structure of the northern, central and southern that will further enhance the stability of the Guangdong-Macau interconnections. In addition, the coverage of EV charging facilities in public car parks has reached 93%, and over 120,000 smart meters have been installed, laying a stronger foundation for CEM’s comprehensive smart services.

CEM does not forget to give back to the society. Every year, CEM organizes various types of public welfare and community activities, including organizing volunteer teams to provide maintenance services for household electrical installations for solitary elders and disadvantaged groups. On the other hand, CEM’s shareholders contributed MOP30 million to upgrade the communal electrical installations of low-rise aging buildings to ensure the electrical safety of customers living in such buildings. So far, 100 aging buildings were confirmed to be subsidized for upgrading their communal electrical installations. In the face of the pandemic and typhoons, CEM also stepped forward bravely, actively improving power supply facilities in low-lying areas to resist typhoons and floods. During typhoons, the frontline colleagues stuck to their posts to ensure stable power supply and maintain customer service; in the midst of the pandemic, CEM’s volunteer team showed dedication by supporting the nucleic acid testing works of the Macau SAR Government.

In the future, CEM will abide by its core values, care for the community, and protect the environment, while helping the Macau SAR Government build a smart city, achieve the dual carbon goals, and inject impetus into the diversified economic and social development of Macau.
