DSAL and CEM Co-organize Certification Course for Electrical Technicians to Enhance the Industry’s Technical Level

Macau, 13 June 2023

Macau Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) in partnership with Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM, S.A. (CEM) organized the ‘Certification Course for Electrical Technicians’ and the opening ceremony was held at CEM Building recently. The course received overwhelming response from the industry, with registrations exceeding capacity. Chan Chon U, Acting-Director of DSAL, Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee and CEM Department Directors, etc., attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Chan Chon U thanked CEM for providing excellent training venues, equipment, training materials and arranging a team of professional trainers to deliver this course. DSAL attaches great importance in cultivating local electrical professionals and strives to enhance the skills level of local electrical practitioners by organizing relevant training programs and skills assessments continuously.

In his speech, Bernie Leong expressed his heartfelt appreciation to DSAL for the support and assistance, which enabled this course to be carried out smoothly. Through this cooperation, both parties can fully utilize the training resources, resulting in complementary outcomes that mutually benefit to all. Bernie Leong hoped that through this course, the participants can further brush up their professional knowledge and skills levels, enabling them to play a pivotal role in different positions. The participants are encouraged to apply for ‘CEM Registered Electrical Technician’ after course completion to enhance their professional recognition.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, all 20 participants will commence a 10-day theoretical and field equipment operation training at CEM Training Center. This course is taught by CEM senior engineers and technicians. Participants who have completed the course can take the ‘Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technician’ exam. Those who pass the exam will be issued a course certificate jointly signed by DSAL and CEM, and can even apply to become a ‘CEM Registered Electrical Technician’.

Given the increasing demand for engineering and technical training, CEM and DSAL will maintain close cooperation and this course will be held again in the 3rd and 4th quarter of this year, inputting more training resources to provide the younger generation with diverse learning opportunities and cultivate professionals.

CEM has been continuously optimizing ‘CEM Electrical Technician’ registration scheme, which requires all those who have become ‘CEM Registered Electrical Technician’ either to complete ‘Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technician’ or ‘Certification Course for Electrical Technician’ no later than 2025; and those who wish to become ‘CEM Registered Electrical Technician’ must meet the above requirement as one of the application conditions. In addition, CEM has gradually required all the engineering works involving CEM power supply applications must be carried out and supervised by ‘CEM Registered Electrical Technician’ to improve the quality of construction works.
