The Women’s General Association of Macau

CEM and associations co-organize seminars to call for energy saving and safety

14 September 2023, Macau

CEM earlier held “Energy Saving and Safety Seminars” in collaboration with the Women’s General Association of Macau (AGMM); the Macau Institution of People’s Alliance (API); Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) and the General Residents Association of Macau (UGAMM) with overwhelming responses. The seminars promoted knowledge on energy conservation and safe use of electricity as well as reminded the public to pay attention to the maintenance of building’s communal electrical installations. The “Energy Saving and Safety Seminar” is one of the series activities of the “Macau Energy Saving Activity”, which has been jointly organized by CEM and the Macau Environmental Protection Bureau since 2009 to promote energy efficiency and conservation in Macau.

The attending representatives were Ada Chan, Vice President of AGMM; Ao Ieong Kuong Kao and Yuan Han Jun, Vice Directors of API; Kuong Chi Fong, Vice Director of FAOM; Chau Un Ian, Social Services Office Coordinator of UGAMM. CEM representatives include Cecilia Nip Director of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office; Joyce Lao, Customer Contact Management Senior Manager and Gabriel Chan, Technical Services Management Senior Manager of Customer Services Department.

CEM representatives reminded attendees about the importance of regular inspection and maintenance of building’s communal electrical installations. Regardless of whether it is a high-rise or low-rise building, the lack of maintenance of communal electrical installations will lead to short-circuit failures or even fire, resulting in serious damages to communal electrical installations and endangering lives. CEM called on the property owners to face up to the problem and hire experienced electrical contractors to regularly inspect and repair their building's communal electrical installations.

The seminars were delivered by Marco Chan, Aidan Cheang, Katy Chan and Alice Fong, Customer Contact Management Officers of CEM Customer Services Department, together withOscar Wong, Heiko Lei, Jeffery Chan and Tommy Cheong, Technical Services Management Engineers of CEM Customer Services Department. The topics comprised of CEM customer services, household energy safety and saving tips as well as the importance of regular inspection and maintenance of building's communal electrical installations.

At the Seminars, CEM representatives introduced several new online and digital customer services introduced by CEM in recent years. Currently, customers can conveniently access different services and have them administered from home, including paying bills, making enquiries and filing applications. Through CEM’s e-Service portal, customers can quickly check on their electricity bills and billing information at any time after creating a personal account. In response to the calls for environmental protection and paper saving, customers are given the option to receive e-bills by email. To step forward, CEM will make the options of receiving e-bills by SMS, WeChat or CEM’s app available by October. With respect to energy safety, CEM engineers explained on the rights and responsibilities of property owners regarding the importance of regular maintenance and repair of building's communal electrical installations as well as providing some cases as examples to shed light on the grave consequences of malmaintenance, such as fire outbreaks. They also introduced how to use electrical appliances safely at home and provided some energy saving tips.

After the Seminars, CEM representatives registered for the attendees to participate in the " 5% Energy Saving Action Lucky Draw". From September until December 2023, residential customers who reduce their consumption by 5% or more compared with the same period last year, will enter the Lucky Draw upon registration. A total of MOP100,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs. Residential customers can visit CEM website www.cem-macau.com to learn about the rules and enroll online. The deadline is 30 November 2023.
