CEM visits the Commercial Services Bureau of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin

On the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (hereinafter referred to as the “Cooperation Zone”), in order to ensure energy security, efficiency, and sustainable development, and to comprehensively understand the future development plan of the Cooperation Zone, further strengthening the electricity cooperation between Macau and Hengqin, a delegation led by Bernie Leong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM), visited the Commercial Services Bureau of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin for exchanges, and received a warm reception from Wu Chuangwei, the Director of the Bureau. At the same time, the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau also participated in the meeting for exchanges.
Bernie Leong stated that the Cooperation Zone is a new platform to promote the moderate diversification of Macau’s economy, a new space to facilitate the lives and employment of Macau residents, a new demonstration to enrich the practice of “One Country, Two Systems”, and a new highland to promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. To improve the power supply security of Macau and the University of Macau’s Hengqin Campus, CEM is actively carrying out the work of relocating the 110 kV CSPG-Macau Line and hopes to receive support and cooperation from the government of the Cooperation Zone. At the same time, CEM is also actively exploring green power and green certificate trading. In the future, CEM hopes to integrate into the industrial development and construction of the Cooperation Zone, participate in energy services and security works, and ensure the continuous provision of clean, low-carbon, and high-quality power services, making positive efforts for the co-construction of a smart and low-carbon community.
During the meeting, Wu Chuangwei introduced the basic situation on energy use in the Cooperation Zone with the focus on electricity, as well as the composition of energy enterprises and the construction of energy infrastructure. He proposed development plans from several aspects, including building an energy system, optimizing energy structure, green trading, and accelerating technology promotion, and so forth. He hoped to rely on Macau’s scientific research advantages and innovate technology development to further explore energy services to Macau and cooperation in green power and green certificate between Macau and Hengqin.
Zeng Weiping, Deputy Director of the Commercial Services Bureau, also introduced the energy development of the Cooperation Zone and the current situation of green certificate development both domestically and internationally. The participants had in-depth discussions on how to promote green certificate trading between Macau and Hengqin, hoping to make use of Macau’s advantages to jointly promote cooperation between Macau and Hengqin as well as Portuguese-speaking countries and the European Union.
