CEM holds Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards to promote occupational safety

The “2021/2022 CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards” Program organized by CEM was held at Macau Tower today to recognize the outstanding performance of contractors and suppliers in terms of quality and occupational safety. Since the award was established in 2008, a total of 65 organizations have been commended in the past 15 years. After professional evaluation and selection, 8 enterprises have won the award this year.

Officiating guests attending the ceremony included: Chan Chon U, Deputy Director of Labour Affairs Bureau; Samio Lou, Head of Development and Management of the Energy Sector Department of Environmental Protection Bureau; Wong Kei, Director of Rector’s Office of University of Macau; Kou Chi Leong, Chairman of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association; Vong Kok Seng, President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee; Keegan Cheang, Director of CEM Human Resources and Sustainability Department.

Keegan Cheang expressed gratitude to the community, the guests and judges in his speech. He stated that occupational safety is crucial for the long-term development of enterprises and the safety and health of employees, and sound occupational safety management is an important means for enterprises to improve their competitiveness. CEM has always attached great importance to occupational safety. The company cares about its employees, regularly arranges relevant training courses, and creates an occupational safety and health culture within the company. By establishing the CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards, CEM encourages and guides contractors and suppliers to jointly value occupational safety, share operational experiences, and improve quality levels.

The judges of CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards include Sou Kuok Fai, Senior Technician of Occupational Safety & Health Department of Labour Affairs Bureau; Chao Chon Wang, Senior Technician of Development and Management of the Energy Sector Department of Environmental Protection Bureau; Lao Keng Weng, Assistant Professor of Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau; Kou Chi Leong, Chairman of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association and Hellen Lok, Employee Relations & Talent Management Senior Manager of CEM Human Resources and Sustainability Department.

China Geomaster Engineering Co. Ltd. shared its experience in the offshore water intake and drainage culvert project of the new seawater cooling system of Coloane Power Station at the ceremony. “Law on occupational safety and health in construction (Law No. 2/2023)” formulated by the Macau SAR Government will come into effect on 1st November. CEM hopes to use this event to call on the whole society to pay attention to occupational safety and work with contractors and suppliers more closely, while encouraging each other to improve and create a safer and healthier working environment and make more contributions to the sustainable development of Macau's economy and society.
