CEM holds 2nd edition of ‘Clean Energy City Challenge’ to draw secondary students’ interest in environmental protection and use of clean energies

Macau, 29 November 2023

Further to the overwhelming success of organizing the “Clean Energy City Challenge” for the first-time last year to draw secondary students’ interest in environmental protection and usage of clean energies, as well as nurture talents engaged in scientific research and innovation, CEM launched again this year the 2nd edition of the event, which is co-organized with Macau Science Center and with the technical support from the Science & Technology Promotion Association.

A total of 48 teams from 19 secondary schools enrolled for the Challenge comprising two groups, one group of F1-F3 students participating in the ‘Environment & Energy Conservation’ category to develop ideas to use energy in a more efficient and environmental-friendly way, another group of F4-F6 students participating in the ‘Clean Energies & Smart Technology’ category to propose ideas to design smart products, services or installations that integrate clean energy infrastructures in Macau or in the Greater Bay Area. A professional judging panel comprising representatives from Macau Science Center, Science & Technology Promotion Association, Environmental Protection Bureau, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and CEM previously selected the top 10 entries from each category. The 20 projects will be exhibited at Macau Science Center from 2 to 10 December 2023 to compete for the final awards with professional judging and public voting.

Projects developed by the students cover a wide range of spectrum. For example, electric vehicles charging optimization solutions, energy conservation through converting wasted thermal energy into electrical energy, installation of piezoelectric generators in roads and sidewalks for electricity generation, hydro power generation and photovoltaic technology solutions, etc.
