Macau, 5 December 2023
Till 10 December, CEM is hosting the 2nd edition of “Clean Energy City Challenge” Exhibition. In addition to learn about secondary school students' ideas and suggestions for making Macau a greener city, participants will have the chance of winning an Apple Watch or iPad. Simply scan the QR code available on site and vote for their favorite projects.
The Challenge is co-organized by the Macau Science Center and with the technical support from the Science & Technology Promotion Association, with the objective to draw secondary school students’ interest in environmental protection and usage of clean energies.
A total of 48 teams from 19 secondary schools enrolled for the Challenge comprising two groups, one group of F1-F3 students participating in the ‘Environment & Energy Conservation’ category, another group of F4-F6 students participating in the ‘Clean Energies & Smart Technology’ category. Students were encouraged to develop ideas for products, services or installations that integrate clean energy infrastructures, that can unequivocally contribute to the sustainable development of Macau. Projects developed by the students cover a wide range of spectrum, including electric vehicles charging optimization solutions, energy conservation through converting wasted thermal energy into electrical energy, installation of piezoelectric generators in roads and sidewalks for electricity generation, hydro power generation and photovoltaic technology solutions, etc.
A professional judging panel comprising representatives from Macau Science Center, Science & Technology Promotion Association, Environmental Protection Bureau, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and CEM selected the top 10 entries from each category. While professional jury's evaluation counts for 80% of the final result, the public can also choose their favorite projects, accounting for 20%. The 20 projects are now being exhibited at Macau Science Center until coming Sunday, 10 December.
