CEM Held ‘Clean Energy City Challenge’ Closing Ceremony to Encourage Students to Create a Low Carbon Future Together

Macau, 10 December 2023 

CEM hosted the 2nd edition of "Clean Energy City Challenge" aiming to draw students’ interest in environmental protection and usage of clean energies. The event was co-organized by the Macau Science Center (MSC) and with the technical support of Science & Technology Promotion Association and counted with the participation of more than 300 students of 48 teams enrolled in representation of 19 local secondary schools. 

Top 20 teams from two categories, namely F1-F3 students (Environment & Energy Conservation) and F4-F6 students (Clean Energies & Smart Technology) were selected by a panel of professional judges. Students were then challenged to build a model with projects to be exhibited at MSC from 2 to 10 December. During the exhibition, school teams competed for the final awards with professional judging (80%) and public voting (20%). Over 3,300 public votes were received.

The Award Ceremony was held today at the Atrium of Macau Science Center. Guests of honor included Wong Chio In, Chief of Department of Planning and Educational Facilities of Education and Youth Development Bureau, Vong Sao Kun, Division Head of Awareness and Environmental Education of Environmental Protection Bureau, Cheong Hung Fat, Deputy Curator of Macau Science Center, Kate Ng, Deputy Secretary General of Macau Science and Technology Promotion Association, Li Xiao Dong, Chairman of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee, and Cecilia Nip, CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office Director.   

Bernie Leong said in his speech that “China has proposed the dual carbon goal of addressing the global climate crisis, and the whole society is taking positive actions to move towards a new era of low carbon. It’s imperative to develop clean energy. Teenagers are the masters of the future carbon neutral world. CEM hopes that students can have more understanding of clean energy through participating in this challenge, apply what they have learned, and become promoters and pioneers of a low-carbon future.”

CEM's corporate slogan is "Powering Forward". In addition to providing excellent reliable power supply services, it also actively assumes social responsibility and connects the community through various types of activities. For the younger generation, CEM has held activities such as "Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction Debating Competition", "Let’s Get Energized - Street Dance Competition", " Rummikub Competition", "Pop-up Fun Lab", etc., to encourage youngsters to practice new knowledge, care about homeland and showcase their talents.
