CEM and the Housing Bureau offer inspection of household electrical installations for elderly living in social housing units

Macau, 30 January 2024

To enhance the awareness of household electrical safety among the elderly living in social housing, CEM and the Housing Bureau cooperated again to provide electrical safety inspections for 23 elderly before Chinese New Year and presented them with healthy food gift packs. CEM and the Housing Bureau have cooperated through the Community Program for eight consecutive years, arranging electricians to provide free inspections and maintenance of household electrical installations for the elderly residents in social housing. The activity aims to deepen seniors’ understanding of household electrical safety, ensuring that each visited senior can celebrate the new year in a safe environment.

Chan Kuan Kit, Head of the Social Housing Division of the Housing Bureau and Jaclyn Iun, Senior Manager of CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office, participated in an electrical safety inspection together. The inspection covered the safety conditions of electrical equipment such as wires, sockets, circuit breakers and residual current devices. It also aimed to identify safety hazards such as old wires and overloaded sockets, and assess the safety of the elderly’s electricity usage habits within the scope of the inspection. Professional electrical technicians provided necessary maintenance and improvement suggestions based on the inspection results.

Jaclyn Iun said that CEM has always cared about the community, actively assumed social responsibility, and attached immense importance to cooperation with the Housing Bureau. Electrical safety is paramount for seniors to live comfortably. CEM hopes to help them identify and address electrical safety hazards through this program so as to welcome a peaceful and happy Chinese New Year together.

CEM launched the Community Program in 2000 and was one of the first organizations in Macau to launch such services. The Program encourages colleagues to use their free time and expertise to provide free safety inspections and maintenance of household electrical installations for seniors who live in solitude, underprivileged families, and people with special needs. It aims to improve their living environment and enhance electrical safety.

Besides accepting referred cases from local organizations, CEM also welcomes citizens to refer individuals in need (those who receive assistance shall hold valid Beneficiary Cards issued by the Social Welfare Bureau). For details and registration, please visit www.cem-macau.com or call 8393 1206.
