CEM and FAOM Signed the Cooperation Agreement for ‘CEM Professional Quality Training Program’

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) recently held a signing ceremony for the ‘CEM Professional Quality Training Program’ cooperation agreement at CEM Training Center, aiming to enhance the overall service level of the industry and improve the quality of talent development, and foster talent exchange.

The ‘CEM Professional Quality Training Program’ cooperation agreement was co-signed by Lee Chong Cheng, Chairman of FAOM, and Zhang Jian, Executive Director of the CEM Executive Committee. The ceremony was witnessed by Huang Huagai, Deputy Secretary General and Director-General of Department of Social Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Ho Sut Heng, President of FAOM, and Bernie Leong, Chairman of the CEM Executive Committee.

The content of the program includes jointly developing professional quality training projects, collaborating on research and development of training programs that meet corporate needs, promoting general education on professionalism, and establishing a flexible and variable mechanism for exchange and cooperation. Through a series of projects within the program, both parties hope to jointly enhance the overall service level and quality of talent development in the industry, promote talent exchange, solidify the foundation of the workers’ craftsmanship spirit, glorify labor, and simultaneously enhance the comprehensive professional abilities of the workers. Together, they aim to promote high-quality service standards for enterprises, raise the level of professional qualities of local talents, strengthen the professionalism of public utility workers, and improve the quality of local public utility services.

FAOM stated that signing the cooperation agreement on professional quality training with CEM is of great significance and believes it will make a greater contribution to the healthy development of Macau’s power industry. Through this collaboration on professionalism training, FAOM hopes to help workers enhance their soft skills and overall quality at work, internalizing the spirit of craftsmanship and professionalism in their hearts and externalizing it in their actions. Since 2016, more than 38,300 participants have been trained in professional quality projects, and the training targets have gradually expanded to 15 different industries and types of work, including public and private enterprises.

In recent years, CEM has launched a series of training projects, including skills and safety training and professional certification courses. In 2023 alone, CEM has conducted 127 training courses, with employees accumulating over 19,000 hours of learning. CEM appreciates the support and cooperation of FAOM in training specialists. Through the signing of the ‘CEM Professional Quality Training Program’ cooperation agreement with FAOM, CEM will be able to continue its efforts to cultivate more specialists for the industry and ensure the continuous improvement of service standards and operational excellence, in order to meet the future challenges of the power sector.

After the signing ceremony, Kevin Lei, Senior Manager of the Network Strategy and Policy Unit of the CEM Transmission and Distribution Department, led the guests on a tour of the CEM Training Center and explained the teaching facilities within the center. The center occupies 8,000 square feet, divided into various independent areas for different purposes. The training programs cover various aspects of electrical engineering, such as installation and maintenance of electric vehicle charging facilities, use and management of measuring instruments, installation and maintenance of low-voltage distribution facilities, and medium-voltage switch operations, etc., meeting the needs for different training sessions to be conducted simultaneously. In addition to CEM employees, the center also offers skill training and assessment services to the public. It serves not only as a place for technical learning but also as an important base for promoting industry development and enhancing professional skill levels.

Other attending guests included Luo Zhenyu, Director of Department of Social Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; Leong Meng Ian, Vice Chairman of FAOM; Lam Cheong U, Deputy Secretary-General of FAOM; Lao Man, Director of Career Training Committee of FAOM; Fong Cho Hou, Librarian at the Worker Book House; Charles Leong, President of the Association of CEM & SAAM Workers; Gorilla Sou, Chairman of the Association of CEM & SAAM Workers; Kong Hin Man, Chairman of Macao Construction Industry General Union; Si Kong Iao, Executive Director of Macao Construction Industry General Union; Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to Customer Liaison Committee; Lam Heong Sang, Member of the Board of Directors of CEM, along with directors from various departments at CEM.
