26 August 2024, Macau
Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) earlier held “Energy Saving and Safety Seminars” in collaboration with the Macau Institution of People’s Alliance (API); the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau Northern District (AICZNM); the General Residents Association of Macau (UGAMM); the Women’s General Association of Macau (AGMM) and Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM). The Seminars received overwhelming responses, attracting over 330 attendees. The “Energy Saving and Safety Seminar” is part of the “Macau Energy Saving Activity” series, jointly organized by CEM and the Environmental Protection Bureau since 2009. It aims to convey energy conservation knowledge to the public and guide everyone to participate in the work of energy saving as well as carbon reduction. Through these Seminars, CEM also promoted information on customer services, energy safety and maintenance of building’s communal electrical installations.
The attending representatives were Yuan Han Jun and Chan Ian Ian, Vice Directors of API; Raymond Wong, President of AICZNM, Ma Kin Cheong, Director of AICZNM, U Cheok Un, Supervisor Board Chairman of AICZNM; Chau Un Ian, Social Services Office Coordinator of UGAMM; Ada Chan, Vice President of AGMM and Ho Fun Ngan, Operations Instructor of AGMM Integrated Services Department; Leong Meng Ian, Vice Director of FAOM, and Nip Iat Hou, Director of FAOM Toi Fai Elderly Service Center. CEM representatives include Cecilia Nip and Jaclyn Iun, Director and Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office; Joyce Lao, Customer Contact Management Senior Manager and Gabriel Chan, Technical Services Management Senior Manager of Customer Services Department.
At the Seminars, CEM representatives said that citizens use many charging devices in their daily lives, including mobile phones and power banks. Additionally, the number of electric vehicle users in Macau is increasing. Improper usage may cause fire accidents. Users should establish correct concepts and good usage habits when using electricity. In addition, lack of regular maintenance and repair of building’s communal electrical installations jointly owned by owners will pose safety risks, which may not only cause malfunctions and power outages, but may even lead to fires. CEM representatives called on everyone to face up to this issue. Buildings’ owners must work together to pay attention and hire experienced electrical contractors to perform regular maintenance and repairs.
CEM representatives introduced various services currently available on CEM eService, CEM APP and CEM WeChat at the Seminars. Customers can easily check their bills online and pay the bills in real time through the online platform. They can also apply for and inquire about different types of electricity services. The power supply application for private EV charging facilities and supply feasibility enquiry can also be done online. As online services continue to improve, CEM urges customers to respond to environmental protection by reducing paper usage and to switch to receiving e-bills via email, SMS, WeChat or CEM APP.
On the other hand, CEM engineers reminded attendees that they must perform regular maintenance and repairs of building’s communal electrical installations for safety, and provided correct knowledge on electricity usage and energy saving at home. In addition, they listed the safety precautions of electric motorcycle charging, such as using certified original batteries, avoiding self-modification of vehicles, and using charging equipment correctly to prevent fires.
After the Seminars, CEM representatives registered attendees for the “5% Energy Saving Action Lucky Draw”. From July until October 2024, residential customers who reduce their consumption by 5% or more compared with the same period last year, can enter the Lucky Draw upon registration. A total of MOP100,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs. Residential customers can visit CEM website at www.cem-macau.com to learn about the rules and enroll online. The deadline is 30 September 2024.
