Macau, 29 August 2024

To promote awareness of safety and help contractors’ employees to be more conscious about occupational safety and health, CEM organized the “Safety Training for Contractors” at the Plaza Restaurant on 29 August. Nearly 100 employees from CEM’s contractors attended the training session, which CEM has been organizing since 2014. With speakers from the Labour Affairs Bureau and CEM sharing their professional knowledge and experiences with the audiences, the training sessions have been well received by the industry.

Lawrence Sun, Senior Manager of CEM Transmission and Distribution Department, said in the welcome speech that CEM has always attached great importance to the occupational health of workers and is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace. Apart from carrying out health and safety policies in accordance with international standard of management, CEM also systematically introduces safety measures into every aspect of its business operation and arranges regular training sessions of occupational health and safety for employees and contractors in a bid to promote CEM's safety culture. Going forward, CEM will continue eliminating potential risks and minimizing hazards that may threaten the health and safety of employees, contractors and the public. It will also continue maintaining and advancing an effective occupational health and safety system. Besides, it will regularly review its operations and safety management system and spread the message of occupational health and safety through various activities.

The main speakers included Chui Ka Shing, Senior Technician of the Labour Affairs Bureau, and Javen Law, Engineer of CEM Transmission and Distribution Department. Chui Ka Shing explained “Risk Assessment and Safety Management for Confined Space” and introduced the precautions when working in confined spaces. Javen Law shared on the topic, “General Management Rule for Trench Work in the Vicinity of Power Cables”, explaining the impact of cable damage on power supply and its prevention. All the participants had positive feedback on the training session, saying that it was informative and useful.

Every year, CEM organizes different training sessions for employees and the industry with an aim of driving the development of occupational safety and health in Macau. CEM set up the “Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Excellence Awards” in 2008 to acknowledge the efforts of contractors and suppliers in promoting environmental protection and safety at work. CEM is the first company in Macau to establish such awards. CEM hopes to join hands with the industry to actively promote occupational safety and health in Macau, while continuing the promotion through various activities and bringing together the efforts of employees and the industry to work towards the vision of zero accidents.
