CEM and Caritas Macau Jointly Organize Seminar on Household Electrical Safety
25 November 2024, Macau
Invited by Caritas Macau WelAnser Centre, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) earlier held the “Household Electrical Safety Seminar” for foreigners working and living in Macau on the morning of 24 November. The seminar took place at the Iao Hon Activity Centre Auditorium and attracted more than 35 participants, including migrant workers from the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal, etc.
With the continuous development of the social economy, the application of electricity has become increasingly diversified. Electrical products enhance the convenience of life, but improper use also increases the risk of fire. Therefore, CEM regularly holds seminars with different associations each year to promote electrical safety to the public and to establish correct concepts and good habits of electricity usage.
The seminar was delivered by Freddie Tang, Technical Services Management Functional Head of CEM Customer Services Department. He used real-life cases and news reports to explain the dangers of improper maintenance of electrical installations and improper use of electrical appliances; taught the participants how to use electrical appliances correctly; problems such as poor contact, overload, and overheating of extension cord plugs; correct charging operations for electronic products and precautions for charging electric motorcycles. Tang reminded participants that if they find that an electrical appliance is not operating normally, they should immediately stop using it and arrange an inspection and repairing by qualified technician. They should not dismantle or repair it by themselves. If the plugs and wires of the charging equipment are worn out or damaged, they should be replaced as soon as possible to avoid dangers such as short circuits and leakage that may cause fires. In addition, Tang also provided participants with energy-saving tips and purchase suggestions for home appliances.
There was a Q&A session at the seminar. Participants actively asked questions about household electrical safety and Tang responded to the questions on the spot.
