The Large-Scale Art Mural at Coloane Power Station Debuts at the “CEM New Year’s Eve Run”
Macau, 29 December 2024
Since launching the “Pillar Box Revitalization with Art” project in 2017, CEM has continuously invited various local art groups and organizations to collaborate, transforming the exterior of outdoor distribution boxes and customer substations through art, turning mundane electrical equipment into something extraordinary and refreshing the visual landscape for residents and tourists. To date, nearly 90 pieces have been completed, and recently, a new and larger-scale artwork has debuted at the Coloane Power Station.
The large mural “Powering Forward Green Living”, located at the Coloane Power Station B, was recently completed and will be publicly displayed for the first time during the “2024 Fourth Round of the Long-Distance Running League: CEM New Year’s Eve Run” event on Tuesday (31 December). Created by local graffiti artist Lam Ka Hou, the mural features CEM’s mascot, “Eco” the otter, symbolizing CEM’s commitment to green energy and sustainable development. The mural not only showcases an eye-catching artistic style but also further strengthens CEM’s image in environmental protection and sustainable development.
The mural uses high saturation of purple, green, and orange to create a stark contrast. “Eco” is depicted in a cute and approachable manner, attracting viewers to pause and appreciate, enhancing the interactive experience. The background’s natural elements and graffiti text add depth to the mural, with extended designs of flowers and vegetation conveying the integration of nature and technology, as well as the future direction of green energy and environmental technology.
Additionally, the “CEM New Year’s Eve Run”, co-organized by CEM and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, will take place on Tuesday (31 December) at the Coloane Power Station. The event celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macau SAR, and the 40th Anniversary of Guangdong-Macau Interconnection. Participants will have the opportunity to closely appreciate the “Powering Forward Green Living” mural. The races include distances of approximately 8.7 kilometers for the Male and Female Youth, Open, Senior, Master and Invited categories, as well as approximately 5 kilometers for the Male and Female Junior categories. To add fun to the event, CEM has introduced the “Most Creative Costume Award” to encourage runners to display creativity and vitality to win great prizes. This event is not only the largest public event ever held at the Coloane Power Station by CEM but also an opportunity to encourage the public to enhance their health through long-distance running and increase their understanding of the power development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
