With the continued efforts of Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM), smart meters have now been fully covered Macau, raising the curtain for a new energy management model. By establishing advanced smart meters and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) framework, power monitoring and management of electricity consumption have been achieved. This not only enhances electricity management and energy efficiency, but also provides customers with a smarter electricity usage experience.

With the advancement of technology and the promotion of the concept of sustainable development, smart meters play an important role in electricity management and are a crucial component in building a smart city. Compared with traditional meters, smart meters offer greater accuracy and data processing capabilities. Not only can they provide electricity consumption data, but they can also perform remote meter reading, fault detection and other functions, making smart meter an important tool for energy management and emission reduction. Through its real-time monitoring and electricity consumption data recording functions, smart meters also help raise public awareness of energy conservation.

With the assistance of smart meters, there is no longer a need for estimated bills. Synergy has also been achieved among CEM’s multiple business areas, efficiently applying smart meter data to different sectors. For instance, integrating electricity usage data from entire buildings to assist in analyzing applications for increased subscribed demand, making the analysis of customers’ supply applications more accurate and efficient. In addition, electricity consumption data is widely used in different fields such as customer report/application analysis, non-compliant electricity consumption detection, load forecasting and planning for transmission and distribution networks, providing reliable support for digital-driven decision-making in power grid planning, operation dispatch and customer service, as well as laying a solid foundation for building an advanced transparent power grid.

In terms of energy conservation and emission reduction, CEM has added a daily electricity consumption analysis function to the “CEM APP”. Customers can check their daily electricity consumption for the past 30 days at any time, making it easier to grasp electricity usage habits, save energy, and manage electricity expenses. By working hand in hand with customers, CEM aims to build a low-carbon electricity system, supporting Macau’s integration into the national green energy development initiative and achieving the dual carbon goals.
