CEM Held Clean Energy City Challenge (3rd edition) Award Ceremony to Raise Awareness Among Students to Work Together on the Path to Decarbonization

Macau, 19 January 2025 

CEM hosted the 3rd edition of Clean Energy City Challenge themed ‘Decarbonization, we can make it’ aiming to draw students’ interest in environmental protection and usage of clean energies. The event was co-organized by the Macau Science Center (MSC) and with the technical support of The Association for Promotion of Science & Technology of Macau. Nearly 300 students of 43 teams enrolled in representation of 14 local secondary schools. 

The Award Ceremony was held today at the Macau Science Center with guests of honor included Sio Hon Pan, Curator of Macau Science Center and Chairman of The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau, Wong Chio In, Chief of Department of Planning and Educational Facilities of Education and Youth Development Bureau, Chio Loi Long, Acting Environmental Cooperation Division Head of Environmental Protection Bureau, Li Xiao Dong, Chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Cecilia Nip, CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office Director. 

Cecilia Nip said in her speech that “Nowadays, in response to the current global climate crisis, countries and regions have set dual carbon targets. CEM is also committed to developing low-carbon green electricity services, demonstrating its synchronization with the country's dual carbon targets. To achieve this goal, everyone needs to contribute to make the world a better and more livable place. We specially organize this event to encourage young people to pay attention to environmental protection and enhance their knowledge and talents.”

“In addition to providing excellent and reliable power supply services, we also take it as our mission to support Macau’s economic and social development, actively assume social responsibility and connect with the community through various types of activities, focused on youth, including “Let’s Get Energized - Street Dance Competition”, “EV Trunk Eco Market”, “Pop-up Fun Lab", etc.”.

Top 20 teams from two categories, namely F1-F3 students (Environment & Energy Conservation) and F4-F6 students (Clean Energies & Smart Technology) were selected by a panel of professional judges. Students were then challenged to build a model with projects exhibited at MSC from 11 to 19 January 2025. During the exhibition, school teams competed for the final awards with professional judging (70%), public voting (15%), and students voting (15%). Over 5,000 public votes were received, clearly showing public support for the participating students and their growing interest in environmental issues.
