CEM and the Housing Bureau are collaborating for the ninth consecutive years via CEM Community Program with CEM electrical technicians voluntarily carry out household electrical installations safety inspections for elderly living alone in social housing before the Chinese New Year, enabling the elderly to live more safely.

Visits were carried out to 20 elderly living in social housing. Chan Kuan Kit, Head of the Social Housing Division of the Housing Bureau and Jaclyn Iun, Senior Manager of CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office, joined the visit with festive greetings and healthy food gift packs to the seniors. 

Chan Kuan Kit stated as the elderly are a more fragile segment of society, many of them live alone and are vulnerable, and these moments of attention bring them great joy and make them feel recognized.

Jaclyn Iun said that CEM has always sought to assume its social responsibility and carries out several activities to meet the needs of the community, especially the elderly. Among them, the Community Program is particularly popular among the public. 

During the visit, CEM technicians carried out small repairs, such as replacing damaged cables, sockets and small electrical equipment. At the same time, they also gave advice to the elderly how to take more care when using electricity. The elderly were very grateful for the visit and friendliness of the CEM volunteers.

The Community Program was created in 2000, with CEM being one of the first companies in Macau to provide such services for citizens with special needs and needy families. Besides accepting referred cases from local organizations, CEM also welcomes citizens to refer individuals in need (those who receive assistance shall hold a valid Beneficiary Cards issued by the Social Welfare Bureau).
